Account Management

CaTS processes and maintains the e-mail (UNIX) and Novell accounts for employees and students of the University. We also provide special accounts for access to the campus mainframe (TSO/ISPF, IMS, and DB2 access) and the University Web server, as well as temporary workshop accounts.

Backups

CaTS performs nightly, weekly, and monthly backups of datasets. The nightly backups are incremental backups (only backs up datasets that have changed).

The weekly and monthly backups are full-volume backups and are stored in an off-site locations for disaster recovery. These off-site backups are rotated out each week and are kept for only 1 version, then that version is replaced with the latest weekly version. Monthly backups are kept for 13 versions, also known as "cycles".

Computer Operations

CaTS' Operations facility efficiently monitors and maintains the University computer systems, as well as the site-wide OhioLINK systems located within the computer room. Operations is responsible for managing computer jobs, resolving hardware and software problems, distributing program output, notifying staff and customers of system problems. They also provide backup and storage of data, control the printers, decollate and burst reports, resolve IBM terminal problems, answer questions pertaining to computer activity and ensure the availability of the Raider Online eXpress (ROX), and Voice Response Unit.

Data Entry Services

CaTS can provide accurate entry and verification of data. This data is loaded to the IBM mainframe for process and includes student information, inventory records, and financial accounting. Survey and statistical data can be loaded directly to ISPF accounts used by administrators or faculty.

Scanning

CaTS processes OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) and IMR (Image Mark Recognition) forms and generates statistical results for exams, teacher evaluations, surveys, and inventory accounting.  To allow our customers to manipulate their own data, the scanned data can also be loaded to an ISPF account, emailed, or written to a diskette. Formats include .txt, .dat, SPSS, or Excel. Specialty surveys are designed, printed, and scanned for special projects/grants.

Scheduling

Scheduling personnel provide timely scheduling of the daily administrative production computer jobs. They monitor and maintain control card information in an online scheduling system. Part of their job is to assist and train clients in using the automated scheduling system, allowing our customers to be more self-sufficient in scheduling their own production requests. Scheduling is also responsible for the setup of production output such as paper size, number of report copies, tapes, microfiche, and special forms and for the resolution of production schedule problems.
