Exploring the Electronic Library: Using the Libraries' Web Site
Today's library includes a complex offering of electronic and print
publications. Learn what's new with the Libraries' web site and
OhioLINK and take a survey of the modern library, including the web
catalog, hypertext links to full text journals, OhioLINK borrowing,
electronic indexes, full-text data, scholarly and news resources, and
Internet sites.
University Staff - Finding What You Need on the Libraries' Web
Site
University Staff -- Would you like to get information faster and learn
where items are located on the Libraries' web site? Would you like
to learn how to find books and online articles, use OhioLINK, and
Interlibrary loan? This class is specifically tailored to help
University Staff better utilize the resources available on the
Libraries' web site. This is open to all staff. Both new and
not-so-new staff are encouraged to attend.
EndNote: Getting Started Hands On
Experience the power of the EndNote bibliographic management
software as you explore its capabilities in this hands-on class for
first time users. Learn to use the OhioLINK Dataware databases to
import references into EndNote. See how Microsoft Word and EndNote
interact to produce a bibliography or reference list in the style (APA,
MLA, Chicago, etc.) you need for your paper. Discover for yourself
why you should begin using EndNote today to help keep you and your
references organized. EndNote version 4 will be used in this class.
Searching the Invisible Web
Are you having trouble finding information on the Web? Have search
engines been letting you down? Maybe it's time you start searching
the "Invisible Web." Estimates suggest that search
engines only find 10% of the available information on the web.
Come learn about what you've been missing as we explain and demonstrate
the newest search tools available for searching PDF files and hard to
find web documents.
Business Resources: Using LexisNexis
Learn how to find business and financial information in one of the most
popular databases for business, legal, and full text newspaper
information we have at WSU Libraries. Come and find out when to
use LexisNexis and when to use our other business databases for your
research needs.
Finding Business Information: ABI/Inform
Need to find articles on any business topic? ABI/Inform is one of
the largest business indexes which covers many topics ranging from
management techniques to competitive and product information.
Activities addressed will include searching it effectively and locating
articles in print and electronic format. Hand-on time will be
built in so participants can pursue their own research topics.
Using CompuStat (Research Insight)
CompuStat (North America) is a financial and statistical analysis
software package that finds data such as earnings, cash flow, ratios,
balance sheets, income statements, and stock information. Learn
how to set up reports and find the financial information you need in
this powerful database.
Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Resources
This workshop will provide an overview of relevant resources in athletic
training, sports science & medicine, health, and physical fitness.
Participants will learn techniques to more effectively search and find
materials in the University Libraries and on the Web. Hands-on
time will be built in so participants can pursue their own research
interests.
Children's & Young Adult Literature Resources
This workshop will provide an overview of relevant Web resources in
children's and young adult literature including valuable information on
criticisms and book reviews, best books, awards, authors &
illustrators, genres, full-text journals and books (especially fairy
tales and fables). Some attention will also be focused on Wright
State's own Harbage & Rackham collections in the Dunbar Library.
Hands-on time will be built in so participants can pursue their own
research interests.

This workshop will provide an overview of relevant resources in
counseling and related fields, including electronic journals &
full-text databases, testing & statistics, associations &

Rehabilitation Counseling: Chemical Dependency Resources
This workshop will provide an overview of relevant print and electronic
resources related to chemical dependency, substance abuse, and
addictions. Participants will have an opportunity to explore
databases, encyclopedias, associations/organizations, online journals,
and Web sites. Hands-on time will be built in so participants can
pursue their own research interests.
Rehabilitation Counseling: Severe Disabilities Resources
This workshop will provide an overview of relevant print and electronic
resources in rehabilitation, with a focus on severe disabilities.
Information on medical aspects of rehabilitation, functional disorders,
behavioral assessment, employment and career options will be covered.
Hands-on time will be built in so participants can pursue their own

Engineering Literature: A Survey of Search Tools and Full Text
Resources
New to campus? Want an update on recent changes? Get an
overview of engineering research resources. Examples will include
article databases, full-text journal archives, conference and proceeding
indexes, and current awareness services. You'll learn a little
about all of your research options and when to use each tool.

Engineering Research Resources in Depth: Compendex
Can't find that research paper? Learn to search Compendex
efficiently. Compendex is a research tool for international
journals, conference papers and proceedings, and technical reports.
It covers all types of engineering disciplines. You'll investigate
all the useful features of this database and get some hands-on practice.

Can't find that conference paper? Learn to search Proceedings
First efficiently. Proceedings First is one of several research
tools for conference papers, and proceedings. It covers all types
of engineering disciplines. You'll investigate all the useful
features of this database and get some hands-on time.
INSPEC: The Database for Computing, Electrical Engineering and
Physics
INSPEC is the most comprehensive database for Computers and Control,
Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Physics. Participants
will help determine which special features will be explored in each
session. Find out what makes this database so unique and learn how
to search it easily.
Patent Searching
Two levels of workshops are available: basic and advanced. These
workshops will cover the search tools available in our Patent
Collection. In the basic workshop, beginning search techniques are
covered using the patent web databases. The advanced workshop will
cover classification searches and international patents.
Trademark Searching
Learn to search for trade and service marks for competitive
intelligence, company information, and identifying whether a particular
trade or service mark is already registered. A brief overview of
where trademarks fit in intellectual property issues and
"hands-on" search techniques using the Trademark Office online
database TESS will be presented.
Searching for Scholarly Resources in the Social Sciences
Do you have assignments that are requiring scholarly or refereed
articles? If so, this class will give you tips on how to get
started. We will look at some of the Libraries' databases that
include scholarly articles. You will also learn about some other
sources that are helpful in determining when a journal is refereed.
ICPSR: A Guide to the Resources
Wright State University is a member of the Inter-University Consortium
for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), which provides access to the
world's largest archive of computer-based research and instructional
data for the social sciences. This workshop will introduce the data
holdings which cover a broad range of disciplines, including political
science, sociology, demography, economics, history, education,
gerontology, criminal justice, public health, foreign policy, and law.
Students and researchers at Wright State University have access to all
the holdings of the Archive now through direct campus access.
Women's Studies Resources
Learn the tools to use for research in Women's Studies. We have an
exciting collection of databases and indexes available for you as you
begin your research, including Contemporary Women's Issues, GenderWatch,
Women Studies Abstracts, Women's Studies Index, and the Alternative
Press Index.
Building Your Research Outward from Just One Good Source Using
the Arts and Humanities Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation

State's local interface, this workshop will introduce you to the main
features and functions of this very important resource for arts and
humanities research. With AHCI and SSCI, you can trace the
influence of research by seeing who has cited whom and quickly examine
"Works Cited" lists. These databases can also be
searched simply as an index to frequently cited research.
Activities addressed will include searching it effectively and locating

What information is available from the 2000 Census, and how can you find
it? This class will include information about the Census geography
and maps.
Ethnic NewsWatch
Ethnic Newswatch provides the full-text of articles from the ethnic and
minority press, making it a unique resource which complements other
databases (such as LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe and Newspaper
Abstracts) covering the mainstream press. This class will help you
make the most of the new Web version of this database. There will
be time for hands-on experience.
Finding Ohio Laws & Regulations
This workshop will cover Ohio Capitol Connection and other sources for
researching Ohio legislation and regulations. There will be time
for hands-on experience.
Introduction to Legal Research
This class will discuss the various types of law and provide an
introduction to sources for finding legal information.
Ohio Capitol Connection
Is information about Ohio government important to your research?
If so, you will find the Ohio Capitol Connection a valuable resource.
This class will help you find legislative information, data on Ohio
counties, and even news articles. There will be time for hands-on
experience.
Sources for World News
The University Libraries recently added two new online resources for
finding out about world events: FACTS.com and World News
Connection. Come to this class to get tips on using them and
to learn how they with each other and with LexisNexis Academic
Universe for keeping up with world news.
Using Science Citation Index Expanded
Participants will learn how to use the major features of ISI's Science
Citation Index Expanded, including subject, author, journal title, and
cited reference searching. The session will allow time for
participants to explore and practice using the database.
INSPEC: The Database for Computing, Electrical Engineering and
Physics
INSPEC is the most comprehensive database for Computers and Control,
Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Physics. Participants
will help determine which special features will be explored in each
session. Find out what makes this database so unique and learn how

Keeping Current in the Physical Sciences
Participants will learn how to arrange for automatic notification of
papers published in their topic areas, how to check the most recent
table of contents of their preferred journals, and how to save an rerun
searches. Participants in each session will help determine which
resources will be explored, but recommended resources are ISI Science
Citation Index Expanded, Carl/Uncover, Article First, OhioLINK's
Electronic Journal Center, and publishers' web sites.
Maps for Geology Researchers
Participants in this workshop will learn what kinds of maps are
available in print and electronic formats in the Dunbar Library and
through OhioLINK and how to locate and use them. We will also
explore selected Internet sites for identifying and accessing maps of
interest to geologists. By pre-arrangement, the resources used
will be tailored to the needs of the participants.

BIOSIS Preview
Learn the basics of searching the most comprehensive bibliographic
database in the Biological Sciences.
PDAs in Biomedicine
Learn about the exciting world of handheld computing! This introductory
class will look at how to optimize your handheld computer use, where to
find useful software, and how to keep current in this rapidly changing
environment. The examples in class will focus on the palm Operating
System. Biomedical software and resources will be emphasized, but all
disciplines are encouraged to attend.
