Scanning Text with OCR
For PC and Macintosh
You can scan the text of a document using OCR (Optical Character Recognition). The printed characters are converted into text for use in word processing packages. From this converted file you can review, edit, proof, and print your text.
TextBridge OCR does not work on Macintosh machines; however, you can use the notes on the right, in a PC lab, to scan Mac ready text.
1. Place your item face down on the scanner glass.
2. Make sure the document is lined up evenly on the scanner.
3. Click TextBridge OCR from Scanner Station ONLY! in the Utilities menu under Start.
4. Click AUTO from the toolbar.
5. Click More Pages until you are done scanning. You will not see this window until the first page is complete.
6. Click Done.
7. Type a filename and a location for the document.
8. Change the Save as type: (if you do not want the default MS Word format).
9. Check Open file when done to automatically open your new document.
10. Click Save.
You will need to proof your text for OCR errors. This process is never 100% accurate.
Macintosh Notes:
Complete steps 1 through 7 as listed above in a PC lab. Make sure to save your file to a floppy disk:
8. Change Save as type: to Rich Text Format for Mac (.rtf).
9. Uncheck Open file when done.
10. Click Save.
11. Log off the PC.
12. Take your disk to a Mac lab.
13. Double-click your newly created .rft file. You can now save and edit in Word for Macintosh.
