Docroom | Terms | Help

Through the Campus Network, you can access a variety of software applications, including Office 97. You can also transfer files, telnet to multi-user systems (such as Paladin), and use Netscape, to name just a few additional services. Also, you can access hundreds of on-line libraries, databases, and computers from your desktop.

Logging In to Someone Else's Machine
Always remember that another person’s machine will have different preferences and programs and programs in different places than your own machine. Also remember that when you are logging into a machine outside of your group, you must enter your complete context in the Name field. The context specifies what group and/or department you belong to, what applications you can access, and where your data files are located. Your context will take the form:

.username.department.wright

or

.username.group.department.wright

This is what you would enter in the Name field instead of your username:

.w001xyz.cs.cats.wright

(where w001xyz is the username, cs is the group within cats, cats is the department, and wright is the root directory)

If your not sure what your context is,

  1. Choose Run… from the Start menu.
  2. Type cx in the Open field and press Enter. A DOS prompt will appear with your context in it.
