Economics Professor, Evan Osborne Receives Fulbright Award

Dr. Evan Osborne has received a Fulbright Fellowship to teach Global Economics at Soochow University in Taipei, Taiwan from September through January 2009. He is also the author of a new book, "The Rise of the Anti-Corporate Movement: Corporations and the People Who Hate Them", published by Praeger/Greenwood in 2007.

The prestigious Fulbright program, America’s flagship international educational exchange activity, is sponsored by the U.S. State Department. It was created more than 40 years ago to promote mutual understanding and respect between Americans and people from other countries.

Osborne, who earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at Wright State since 1994. He has developed several innovative new courses, including Economics of Diversity and the Economics of Sports, which illustrates core theoretical concepts from labor economics, industrial organization, microeconomics and international economics.

He has also taught in the Lake Campus MBA program and the China Executive-Format MBA program, and was a visiting scholar at Osaka University in Japan.

Osborne has authored more than 20 articles in top-tier professional journals with international readership. His recently published book, The Rise of the Anti-Corporate Movement, is a groundbreaking look at public sentiment toward businesses in an era of widespread corporate scandal.

In Taiwan, Osborne will teach undergraduates about globalization.

"I hope to be fortunate enough to learn how students and citizens in a very successful but small country—that is both master and at the mercy of larger global trends—see the current era's ongoing creation of global trading networks," Osborne said. "I hope to build enduring connections between Wright State and Soochow Universities and between Taiwan and Ohio, and to improve my teaching through this immersion in a foreign classroom."
