Sravan Reddy, recipient of the Graduate Council University Scholar award and the Jacob B. and Vera O. Paperman Scholarship, chose Wright State’s business accountancy program because of the quality of education, scholarships, and the faculty’s emphasis on career options. This fall he will enter the Master of Accountancy program, and he has already accepted full-time employment with Ernst and Young slated to being in 2006.

Andy Nichols, recipient of the Ohio Society of CPA’s 2005 Manuscript Contest, is a graduate student in the Master of Accountancy Program. “To me,” Andy said, “Financial accounting like putting a puzzle together. It seeks to translate economic events into a cohesive, understandable format so that investors and creditors can make informed decisions. The Ohio Society of CPAs 2005 Manuscript Contest gave me the opportunity to explore how the accounting profession might improve this process, so that the economic puzzle pieces of all businesses would come together to form clearer, more accurate pictures. I feel the professors at Wright State are a big reason for my success. They have helped me to go beyond simply ‘learning the rules’ of accounting to critically analyzing current financial reporting practices, understanding its strengths and limitations, and contemplating ways to improve it.”

Andy Valerius, a graduate student in the Master of Accountancy program, was the winner of the Student Ambassador Program from the Ohio Society of CPA’s. “The Ohio Society of CPAs Student Ambassador Program has given me a great opportunity throughout the past two years.  It has given me the chance to go into classrooms of freshmen and sophomores and speak to them as a peer; helping to guide them as they make the difficult decision of picking a major.  By showing these students the many career paths that are available with an accounting degree, I am giving them
another option for their life after college,” Andy said.

Stephanie Brewer is an undergraduate student in the Accountancy program. She greatly appreciates the financial assistance provided by the Accounting Department and the Ohio Society of CPA’s. “Becoming a full-time student at twenty-nine years of age was not an easy decision to make.  However, the opportunity to attend Wright State full-time has allowed me to focus entirely on my education, and the benefits of the increased interaction I have with Professors and other students has enhanced my education.   The scholarships I received from the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants and the
WSU Accountancy Department have lessened my financial burden and will be a big incentive to continue striving for excellence in my studies,” Stephanie said.
