Two teams of students from Wright State
University's Raj Soin College of Business placed second at the 20th
annual National Case Competition, sponsored by the Society for the
Advancement of Management.
WSU's graduate student team of Marguerite Quijas, Cory Jennewein,
and Troy Lindo finished second, and the undergraduate team of Denise
Beining, Alyson Satchell, and Jon Gauder also finished second in the
nation among teams from approximately 30 U.S. colleges and
universities. Gauder also was elected as a student member of the
society's board of directors.
Without any input from faculty coaches, the teams were required to
analyze a complex case involving the purchase of prescription drugs
from Canada. The students prepared a strategic plan for an American
pharmaceutical manufacturer dealing with how they would address this
issue.
The students
were judged on their recognition of the company's
problems, their assessment of the alternatives available, their
recommendations for action, and their responses to questions from
the judges.
The Wright State team was directed by Lisa Crawford, a lecturer of
management at the Raj Soin College of Business. She was assisted by
Thomas Brookey, an assistant dean at the college.
