| Ten
students will be selected to participate
in a one-week summer workshop
where they will be paired with
instructors to conduct biological
investigations. The goal of the
workshop is to develop access
to laboratory science for all
students with physical and learning
disabilities. Students will gain
skills in biology, geology, and
chemistry, as well as scientific
concepts that will prepare them
for future studies. In addition
to 24 hour supervision, accommodations
will include personal assistants,
adaptive technology, and interpreters
as required. |
Ten
educators from across the nation
will be selected to participate
in the two-week workshop. Selected
educators will work one-on-one
with physically disabled, 7-12th
grade, students, learning innovative
techniques to develop a range
of scientific investigations.
Our educators will be exposed
to a wealth of resources available
for adapting science labs. The
C.L.A.S.S. summer workshop should
provide educators across the country
with the resources, labs, and
the skills needed to include students
with physical disabilities in
their science classes and laboratories.
The
workshop provides travel funds
to and from our campus, room and
board in campus housing, a stipend
of approximately $800.00 and the
option of graduate credit. Wright
State University is one of the
leading schools in the United
States with facilities for individuals
with physical disabilities. The
Department of Biological Sciences
is currently offering science
laboratories that are accessible
to students with physical disabilities.
