Art & Art History

Suzanne Bock

Suzanne Bock spent 20 years working as a commercial artist, but never lost her desire to create her own art. In 2010, she enrolled at Wright State to follow her dream of transitioning to fine art. As a Fine Arts sculpture major, Suzanne has shown three pieces at the Dayton Visual Arts Center and recently had her work shown at the Dayton Art Institute. She is currently developing a body of sculptural work to exhibit in art galleries by the time she graduates.

Lydia Collins

Lydia Collins graduated from Bellbrook High School and is an honors student in her senior year studying Art Education. Lydia enjoys writing and running. She is also an Underwater Raider as the Wright State SCUBA divers refer to themselves! In fact, as a certified Master SCUBA Diver she has swum with sharks and fish bigger than a basketball player!

Bethany Faile

Bethany Faile is an art major who graduated from Beavercreek High School. She has a passion for animation, drawing, and creating stories. Bethany loves to find the positive in everything. She believes that every moment in life should be cherished, and she records these moments with photography, journals, and drawings.  

Ross Hale

Ross Hale is a Senior Art major. He was raised in Enon and graduated from Greenon High School in Springfield. He has been drawing since age seven and has an overwhelming passion for maintaining a traditional academic approach to visual representation. 

Keely Mikal

Keely Mikal is a Sophomore Art major from Dayton and a graduate of Carroll High School. At Wright State she participates in intramural soccer and serves as treasurer of the Karate Club. Her hobbies include painting, drawing, and sculpting, and she also loves to travel.

Amber Nichols

Amber Nichols graduated from Beavercreek High School in 1985. For many years, she worked and focused on raising her two children. From 1994 to 1996, she lived on St. Kitts, an island in the Caribbean, where she designed souvenir t-shirts which you can still find for sale in one of the small tourist shops!  A year ago, she enrolled at Wright State as an Art History major. Her favorite hobbies include scrapbooking, making beaded jewelry, and playing with her kids. After graduating next summer, she hopes to pursue a Master’s in School Counseling from Wright State. 

Megan Spencer

Megan Spencer  is a senior art education major. After graduating next spring, she will work towards her Masters in Art Education at Wright State. Megan is a member of the visual art club and drawing club. Her hobbies include climbing and photography. Something unique about Megan is that she has a new pet, a baby hedgehog!

Jaime Tate

Jaime Tate is a sophomore photography major from Centerville. Her interests include nature, animals, and sports, and she also likes scrapbooking, writing, drawing, painting, and photography. Jaime loves the show Criminal Minds because she enjoys figuring out the plot before the experts on the show do!

Miranda Taylor

Miranda grew up in Beavercreek where she began honing her creative skills at the local high school. She earned an associate’s degree from Sinclair in Visual Communications, and certificates in multimedia and desktop publishing. She is in her junior year at Wright State as a Fine Art major with a concentration in Printmaking. She is an active member of the Dayton Printmakers Cooperative and the Dayton Visual Art Center. Miranda loves exploring new artistic mediums and techniques. She has also been an avid SCUBA diver for 20 years.


Bridget Beyke

Bridget Beyke is a senior music education major and her primary instrument is piano. She attended Otterbein University for two years before transferring to Wright State last year. Bridget enjoys watching movies, playing music for her church, and visiting with friends and family.  And boy does Bridget have a big family – she is one of twelve children!

Sharon Chaney

Sharon Chaney is a sophomore Piano Performance major. She is a mother of four who lives in New Bremen with her husband Rob. She enjoys giving private piano lessons to twenty-two students and accompanying the local high school choir. She would like to thank Chally Group Worldwide for the scholarship that is helping her to achieve her dream of graduating from Wright State. 

Jessica Cox

Jessica graduated from Sinclair Community College with an Associate's degree in Piano Performance and is seeking her bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance at Wright State.  She has been a church pianist for over 10 years and is most at home when making music, either by herself at the piano, or creating it with others.  She was blessed to have been home schooled from the second grade through high school and is the lucky older sister to four siblings whom she considers to be her best friends.  

Caitlin Everhart

Caitlin Everhart is a sophomore music education and trumpet performance major from Springfield.  She is a member of the Wright State Wind Symphony, Trumpet Ensemble, and Raider Pep Band.  Her hobbies include spending time with friends and reading. 

Xavier Everhart

Xavier Everhart is an instrumental Music Education major from New Lebanon. He participates in the Wright State Men’s Chorale, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Trumpet Studio. He enjoys singing, playing sports, and acting, and he hopes to be able to participate in theater at Wright State. After graduation, Xavier would like to become a High School band or choir director. 

Ashley Geist

Ashley Geist is a sophomore piano performance major from Xenia who was homeschooled from kindergarten through high school. She began taking piano lessons at age 10 and a year later began to accompany at her church.  Ashley loves cooking, shopping, reading novels, playing basketball and softball, and spending time with family and friends. Ashley is a Raider through and through as she is the 3rd generation in her family to attend Wright State! 

Jacqueline Germann

Jacqueline Germann is a junior pursuing two majors in Music Education with concentrations in piano and voice. As a homeschooled graduate from Trenton, Ohio, she participated in the National Music Certificate program and All Ohio Piano Ensemble. At Wright State, Jacqueline is involved in University Chorus, acting as alto section leader and Deputy Chief of Staff. In addition to music, she enjoys food art, cake design, and decorating.

Kylene Griffith

Kylene Griffith is a senior vocal performance major. She performs with the University Chorus and the opera program. In 2011 she won Aria and Concerto night. Kylene lives with her family in Miamisburg, and on the weekends she keeps busy teaching piano lessons and playing piano and singing in her church. After graduating in 2013, she would like to earn her Master’s degree so she can teach voice at the University level.

Emily Hiltner

Our next scholarship recipient is Emily Hiltner who is receiving the Heidelberg Distributing Company ARTSGALA Scholarship. Heidelberg could not join us this evening but we do appreciate their many years of support. Emily is a junior majoring in music history and oboe performance. She also takes piano and percussion lessons.  Some of her hobbies include making oboe reeds, reading, hosting knitting parties, and relaxing with friends. She also loves to hang out with her cat, Lupin. An interesting fact about Emily is that one of the items on her Bucket List is to meet Johnny Depp.

Doug Lane

Doug Lane is a Junior Music Education Major from Dayton. He has performed in the Wright State Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble, Men’s Chorale, University Chorus, and Student Brass Quintet. Doug has been collecting various instruments for the past three years. These include an organ and a sitar (SIT-ARE).  For those of you like me who had no idea what this is, a sitar is a stringed Indian instrument used in a lot of rock music in the 1960's and 70's by groups like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones!

Alexander Lindon

Alexander Lindon is from Middletown and is in his junior year as a music education major. He participates in Collegiate Chorale, Chamber Singers, Wind Symphony, and Chamber Orchestra. He is also a student leader in pep band. His hobbies are volleyball, football, soccer, and music. Alexander is excited that this January he will travel to Greece with the Trumpet Studio!

Mary Kate MacLean

Mary Kate MacLean is a freshman physics major/ music minor who graduated from Kettering Fairmont High School. At Wright State she participates in Wind Symphony, Flute Studio, the Society of Physics Students, and the Honors program. In her free time, Mary Kate likes to watch movies and hang out with her friends.

Ashley Miller

Ashley Miller graduated from Brookville High School and is a sophomore Music Education major studying percussion. She is a member of the Wright State Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble. Ashley performs with the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Yellow Springs Chamber Orchestra, and has even worked alongside the Boston Conservatory faculty. 

Evan Miller

Evan Miller is a freshman music education and percussion major from Enon, and he graduated from Greenon High School. He is involved in the Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Pep Band, as well as the college radio station. Evan enjoys anything musical, as well as reading, writing, and being outdoors.  Something unique about Evan is that he is a triplet!  

Tyler Spears

Tyler Spears received his Associates degree in Music Education from Sinclair and is now a junior Music Education major at Wright State. He is a member of the Wright State Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. He also performs with the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra, The Generations Swing Band, and he serves as a percussion instructor for Greenview High School. Apart from music, Tyler enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending time with his family.  

Terry Staten

Terry is a sophomore from Greenfield, Ohio majoring in Music Education and Saxophone Performance. Terry has had the privilege to perform in many venues around the tri-state area as well as West Virginia, Georgia, and Iowa. At Wright State, Terry is a member of the Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble, and Saxophone Quartet. Outside of school, Terry enjoys landscaping, performing at local churches, baking, and spending quality time with his family. He is also lead guitarist of a classic rock/contemporary Christian band! 

Michael Van Kirk

Michael Van Kirk graduated from Bellbrook High School in 2010 and is a Music Education major at Wright State. He is very active teaching private lessons and working with area high school marching bands. Michael is also very active in the “Jam Band” circuit, performing with different rock groups around town.

Alyssa Brembeck

Alyssa Brembeck is a recipient of the Miller-Valentine Group ARTSGALA Scholarship. Miller-Valentine could not send a representative tonight but we are grateful for their new sponsorship of ARTSGALA last year. 

Alyssa graduated as salutatorian from the Dominion Academy of Dayton. She is a sophomore acting major at Wright State. According to Alyssa, nothing beats an afternoon with her feather bed blanket, a good cup of coffee, and an amazing play.

Lawrence Dunford

Lawrence Dunford also known as Law, is a Daytonian in his sophomore year as an acting major and African-African American studies minor. He has been seen in Wright State’s productions of Rent and Barnaby Rudge (RUDDGE).  He wants to pursue a career of film and theatre, and he wants to create a studio so inner city youth have an outlet. Lawrence married his wife Mia at age nineteen and has been happily married for six years.

Hannah Kleimeyer

Hannah Kleimeyer is a senior dance major. She has been in 5 Wright State dance performances. She also currently dances with the Dayton Ballet in their second company and has danced in many of their shows, including Sleepy Hollow and The Nutcracker.  In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, and watching movies. She also looks forward to her annual summer trip to Northern Michigan. According to Hannah, it’s sometimes a rough journey with the whole family, Italian greyhound and cockatoo along for the ride, but well worth it to spend time together on the beaches of Lake Michigan. 

Mimi Klipstine-Dick

Mimi is a sophomore Musical Theatre major. Her freshman year she was the female swing for Phantom of the Opera and she is currently playing the role of Fanny Brice in Funny Girl.  During breaks from school, Mimi performs at many community and church functions, and this summer, she became a trained Barista at Boston Stoker.  

Regina Villaver

Regina Villaver is a Senior Musical Theater Major who is frequently seen in Wright State’s many productions; house manages for Wright State’s Festival Playhouse; and is a Wright State tutor. She also works for the Zoot Theater Company in Dayton. Regina proudly touts her status as a master thrift shopper and has always wanted to be a stunt woman. She also enjoys a good meal with friends and family and working to polish her craft as a performing artist. She will be moving to New York after graduation and hopes to tour internationally. 

Renika Williams

Renika Williams graduated with honors from Trotwood Madison High School and is a Sophomore Acting Major at Wright State.  She has been cast in two plays: Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice and this fall’s The Miracle Worker. Renika has a huge passion for the stage. She loves to act, sing, and dance. She’s interested in starting her own arts center in Dayton one day to give more youth the chance to express their creativity. She is very thankful that Wright State has given her the same opportunity.
