The CAC Modernization and Expansion project is under way! And what's more, it is on schedule!
Phase I involves the renovation of the old TV Center into the new Motion Pictures Center. It will provide a new home for our esteemed Motion Pictures program and expand the scope of the program by adding a production studio and a digital technology lab. The new facility will be ready by the start of Spring semester classes in January, 2015.
Other elements of Phase I include the complete renovation of a portion of the lowest level of the CAC into acoustically isolated music faculty teaching studios and a new office suite for our School of Music. The move-in date for the Music portion is March, 2015. We've also begun to renovate the restrooms off of the Commons.
If you've visited you've noticed the front doors are closed off and there is construction fencing at the front of the building. This indicates the beginning of Phase II, construction for the new front entrance and addition. We are expecting to pour concrete for the addition before spring so building can begin in earnest over the summer. Also this summer, the Commons will be closed for extensive renovation, including construction of a second level "catwalk" and a floating computer lab nicknamed the "lily pad."
The whole project should be completed before the end of 2016. This is exciting!
