Creative Arts Center Modernization and Expansion January 2016 Progress Report

Every day is an adventure as we drive by the ever-changing CAC construction project! The shape and mass of the addition is clearly visible, and it is easy to see just how much the addition will change the appearance of the building. The “knife wall” extends boldly from the building as it dramatically highlights the creative new entrance. We beat the cold weather and sealed up the building envelope so workers are comfortable and paint can dry.

The interior renovation has gone very well. The Music faculty and staff are pleased with their brand new studios and offices, as well as their new main School of Music entrance and offices. As the faculty moved into their new space, we started the renovation of their old areas for an updated and ex-panded percussion studio, classrooms, and labs.

Meanwhile over on the theatre side of the house, we completed the Center for Motion Pictures and started in on the demolition and renovation of the space that MoPix had vacated. The renovated space will be the home of an expanded costume design studio and light and sound laboratories. It is all looking great and the faculty, staff, and students are excited to move into this renovated space!

We are on target for completion of the addition for ARTSGALA 2016 (to be held on April 9 – hope you can attend!) allowing us to expand our venues and space and unveil for the first time the new dance and combat studios, two-story Robert and Elaine Stein Art Galleries, and striking new entrance. The entire CAC project is set for completion by the start of the Fall 2016 semester. Needless to say, this coming summer will be particularly busy as we renovate the commons and other classroom space in the building.

We greatly appreciate all of your generous support as we create the façade and facilities to keep up with the extraordinary quality of our fine and performing arts programs.
