The Present Past: A Survey of Work by David Leach

March 30-May 1, 2011

From March 30 – May 1, 2011 the Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries will present a survey of work by Faculty Emeritus and accomplished printmaker David Leach. Penny Park, Professor of Art, curated the exhibition, and this will be one of the largest groupings of the local artist's work. The exhibition will feature Leach’s work from the past forty years, and will include works on paper, paintings, and books.

A printed catalogue of the artist's work will be available during the exhibition.

Leach is a Professor Emeritus at Wright State University, where he taught printmaking, drawing, and color theory from 1973–2003. He also chaired the Department of Art and Art History from 1985–1989. Leach received his MFA in printmaking from Ohio University, and his BA in Art and Art History from Bucknell University.

His work is in many public and private collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library of Yale University, the Dayton Art Institute and the Cincinnati Museum of Art. Today he works in this home studio creating drawings and paintings, and he continues to make prints at the Dayton Printmakers Cooperation and Wright State University.

On Sunday, April 10, 2011 the artist will present a free public lecture at 2:30 p.m. in M252 Creative Arts Center, with a reception to follow in the Robert & Elaine Stein Galleries until 5:30 p.m. In addition to the reception, a short poetry reading will be presented in the Galleries between 4:00-4:30 p.m. to commemorate Leach's past collaborations with local poets, and to celebrate National Poetry Month. The four presenting poets are Gary Pacernick, David Garrison, James Hughes (all Emeritus faculty of WSU) and David Petreman (Modern Languages, WSU).

The exhibition is made possible with support by the Ohio Arts Council, the Friends and Members of the Galleries and the Wright State University College of Liberal Arts.

Gallery hours are Wednesday and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All visitor parking areas on campus are free, and parking at the Creative Arts Center is unrestricted after 4:00 p.m. Fridays and weekends. A dedicated parking space for galleries patrons is available during school hours.

All Galleries events are free and open to the public.
