The ELM Foundation Acquisitions: 10 Years of Giving

April 1-May 4, 2008

A Rare Glimpse of the Collection

The Stein Galleries’ is proud to present the commemorative exhibition, The ELM Foundation: 10 Years of Giving from April 1, 2008 through May 4, 2008.

Over the past decade, The ELM Foundation has generously donated funds to the Robert & Elaine Stein Galleries for the expansion of the permanent collection. The Galleries has been able to purchase more that 130 works by some of the most important contemporary artists working and exhibiting regionally, nationally, and internationally. The pieces acquired are an integral part of the University’s teaching collection, used by studio and art history instructors to emphasize themes and techniques discussed in class.

Works rarely seen by the general public from the Galleries’ teaching collection will be on display, including sculptures from previous International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibitions and the very first piece ever purchased with funds from the ELM Foundation, Robert Berlind’s Umber Water, Last Leaves. Other artists represented in the ELM Foundation acquisitions include: Gretna Campbell, Louisa Mattaisdottir, Nicholas Nixon, Alan Rath, Paul Resika, Robert Stivers, and Anne Tabachnick among many others.

A closing reception will be held on May 4, 2008 from 4:00-5:30pm in the Robert & Elaine Stein Galleries, A132 Creative Arts Center. Also showing concurrently in the Eugene and Jean Cantelupe Gallery will be the 9th International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition, organized by the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

This exhibition is supported at Wright State University by the Friends of the Galleries, Wright State University College of Liberal Arts and the Ohio Arts Council.
