Making Connections:
As a freshman here at WSU, I had the opportunity to listen to a presentation made by INROADS, a non-profit organization that helps develop and place talented minority youth in business and industry. Afterwards, I felt compelled to join INROADS. Through the workshops and training that INROADS provided, I was able to obtain an interview and successfully secure a summer internship with Toyota (TMMK).
Preparing for the Future:
I have learned a lot of textbook theory in the field of engineering at WSU, but my co-op experience at Toyota (TMMK) allowed me to see and apply these ideas first hand. In the Paint Department at Toyota, I have had the opportunity to see mechanical, electrical, industrial, and chemical engineering systems all joined together to complete the desired task of painting a car. During my co-op, I truly learned the fundamentals of engineering which centers around effective problem solving. This involved planning, implementing, checking, and correcting ideas for the production process. I learned to manage my time well by organizing and prioritizing tasks. I also learned to work better in team settings with people of different ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds |
