Outside of the Classroom:
My study abroad experience definitely helped my self-confidence and my feelings of independence. I had a rough first week (arriving late, getting lost, etc.), but I was able to figure everything out and it made me feel very independent and proud. If I can take on a problem by myself on the other side of the world, I can take on anything! The first week was the hardest— learning the town, getting into the habit of speaking the language, being homesick--but once I got past that, I didn’t want to leave! It definitely enhanced my passion for the language and the culture.
Inside the Classroom:
Before I spent the summer abroad, I was in a German Film class, but I had to leave three days early to make my orientation in Germany. On my last day of class, my class threw me a going-away party, which made me feel really special and excited about what was to come. |
