Outside the Classroom:
For three summers I've been able to lead the Freshman Outdoor Orientation Trip (FOOT). This is a pretty cool experience for incoming first-year students. At the end of August, the week before classes begin, we take a long backpacking trip along the Appalachian Trail. We learn Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and Leave No Trace backcountry techniques. It's hard and it's fun and it's a great experience.
A Few of My Favorite Things:
Sea kayaking in Australia is just one of the adventures I've had as a student. I work on campus in the Outdoor Rec Center, which has broadened my interest in the great outdoors: backpacking, kayaking, riding, climbing, even spelunking. There's always a rec event or trip to enjoy. |
