Wright State Scholarship Programs

First Year Students

Wright State University's First Year Student Scholarship Program is merit-based and designed to recognize academically outstanding and creatively talented students. More than 1,700 new freshmen were offered over $4.7 million in scholarships for the 2007-2008 academic year. Scholarship awards range in value from $500 to $16,600.

Academic Performance Scholarships (based on high school GPA, class rank, ACT or SAT scores) are awarded from the Admissions applications received by Feb. 15. You need not complete an additional application.

To apply for a Competitive Honors Scholarship, the student must submit the Competitive Honors/Trustee application, which must be postmarked by Jan. 15, as well as an Admissions application, typed essay, two letters of recommendation, typed list of community service, extracurricular activities, offices held, and awards/honors received, academic transcript, and if applicable a PSEO transcript.

The Honors Program offers additional scholarship opportunities for honors students, as does the College of Engineering & Computer Science for their students.

Talent Scholarships, are available through the Department of Music at (937) 775-2346 or the Department of Theatre, Dance and Motion Pictures at (937) 775-3072 and are based on auditions.

Transfer Students

Transfer students can receive scholarships and federal/state financial aid to assist with their educational cost.

To receive federal/state aid the Office of Financial Aid must have the FAFSA on file. This can be done by one of the following ways:

1. Go to the FAFSA web site (www.fafsa.ed.gov) and add WSU (003078) to step six
2. Call the Office of Financial Aid (toll free 1-877-978-3243, (937) 775-5721) and give the Data Release Number (DRN) from the Student Aid Report (SAR)
3. Submit a copy of SAR to the Office of Financial Aid

Due to annual Pell Grant, Stafford Loan and Perkins loan limits, the financial aid students received at another institution may affect the financial aid eligibility at Wright State University. It is up to the student to contact the previous institution and to cancel all unused portion of the financial aid. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact Kim Everhart.

Continuing Students

Continuing undergraduate students should complete the Academic Scholarship application by the March 1 filing deadline. The application is available in January of each year.
