FA Process

Verification

To ensure applicants submit accurate financial data on the FAFSA, the U.S. Department of Education has established a process called Verification. About 33% of all FAFSA filers are selected by the U.S. Department of Education to complete the verification process.

Students selected for verification can print a Verification Worksheet from their Financial Aid and Scholarship Requirements link on WINGS Express. Follow the instructions on the Verification Worksheet and submit all requested U.S. Income Tax Return documentation with the Verification Worksheet to the Office of Financial Aid. Please make sure the Verification Worksheet and any requested U.S. Income Tax Returns are signed.

The U.S. Department of Education provides limited funding for federal campus-based aid programs [Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Nursing Student Loan, and Federal Work-Study]. Therefore, students selected for verification who filed their FAFSA by the priority deadline date for federal campus-based aid, are encouraged to submit verification documentation in a timely manner. Otherwise, federal campus-based funding may be depleted prohibiting the inclusion of any federal campus-based aid in the student’s financial aid package.

An Award Notice will not be made available to the student until the verification process has been completed.
