Award Notice Award Notices are available on WINGS Express. To receive an Award Notice, students must have:
Award Notices are made available to new students (incoming freshmen attending Wright State directly from high school) by March 15 prior to the start of the upcoming aid year. Award Notices for continuing students are made available after the Winter Quarter prior to the start of the upcoming aid year (once their academic progress has been reviewed). The Office of Financial Aid notifies students via Wright State e-mail when an Award Notice is available on WINGS Express. WINGS Express To access Award Notices on WINGS Express, students must logon to the WINGS portal and click on the WINGS Express icon. Enter your University ID and WINGS Express PIN. Click on "Student and Financial Aid," click on "Financial Aid and Scholarships," click on "Award Notice," and select the aid year. Need help navigating WINGS Express? Visit the WINGS Resource Center and view Financial Aid Videos. Summer Aid When preparing Award Notices, the Office of Financial Aid awards financial aid for Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters. In order to receive aid for Summer Quarter, students must indicate their summer enrollment plans on WINGS Express. Students who answer "Yes" will have financial aid awarded for Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters. NOTE: Summer begins the aid year and aid is awarded Summer through Spring. Answering "Yes" to summer enrollment plans does not expedite your Award Notice. Approving Aid Awards Students must approve offered aid. When viewing the Award Notice on WINGS Express, if aid is offered, students must click on "Approve Award Notice" and then follow the directions carefully to accept or decline the offered aid. After approving aid awards, read all of the information on the Award Notice's "Additional Information" section. Students who accept loans often have additional requirements to complete, like promissory notes and entrance counseling, in order for funds to disburse. NOTE: Students cannot accept a Parent PLUS Loan. Parents who wish to apply for a PLUS Loan can visit our Federal PLUS Loan page for more information on how the parent can apply. Understanding Aid Awards Wright State University awards full-time aid amounts. Therefore, the Award Notice displays the amount of financial aid students are eligible to receive based on students attending Wright State on a full-time basis. Once a student approves his or her awards and registers for classes, the amount and type of aid that will credit toward his or her Bursar Account will be determined by the student's actual registered credit hours. The most common aid awards require students enroll at least half-time to receive the monies. Once a student has competed registration for a quarter, the student can view on WINGS Express the amount of financial aid that he or she will receive based on his or her actual enrollment. To do so, logon to WINGS Express, click "Student and Financial Aid," click "Student Fees, Student Health Insurance, and Student Legal Fees," click "Student Fees, Student Health Insurance, and Student Legal Fees" again, select the term and click "Submit," and then click "Click Here." If financial aid has not paid to the student's Bursar Account, the total amount of estimated financial aid for the quarter will be displayed under Current Account Status. If financial aid has already paid, click "Recent Account Activity" to view financial aid payment transactions. Disbursement of Aid Awards Financial aid awards (excluding Federal Work Study, external scholarships, tuition remissions, and third party payments) are applied directly to Bursar Accounts through a process called disbursement. Disbursement occurs on a quarterly basis. Financial aid awards may be disbursed to a student's Bursar Account for a given quarter as soon as ten (10) days prior to the start of the student's classes, provided the student is awarded financial aid, is enrolled at Wright State, and is eligible for disbursement. If a student applies late for financial aid, aid may be delayed or the student may become ineligible for disbursement. Financial aid recipients' enrollment statuses are frozen (for disbursement purposes) after each quarter's freeze date. The freeze date is typically the eighth day of the quarter. Each time a student changes his or her registration prior to the freeze date, the amount of financial aid disbursed will be evaluated for adjustment and the aid disbursed may be increased or decreased according to the new registration. After the freeze date has passed, the amount of financial aid that will disburse will be based on the student's recorded enrollment status as of the freeze date. Financial aid awards may be adjusted after the freeze date if a student officially or unofficially withdraws, receives a refund of institutional charges, or becomes eligible or ineligible for financial aid. Fee Payment and Refunds Once financial aid has been disbursed for a given term, the Office of the Bursar will apply the aid as payment towards a student's charges. Any remaining financial aid awards left on the Bursar Account after the account has been paid in full will be issued to the student (or parent in the case of a Federal PLUS Loan) in the form of a refund. Refund monies can be issued by check or directly deposited into a personal bank account. For more information about fee payment, refunds, and direct deposit, contact the Office of the Bursar at (937)775-5650. Important Information About Aid Awards Wright State University reserves the right to adjust your aid award at any time.
