Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy for Federal Student Aid
The Office of Financial Aid will review students' academic history on an
annual basis to determine their eligibility for federal student aid at Wright
State University. The annual review will occur at the end of Winter Quarter
for the upcoming aid year (Summer Quarter through Spring Quarter). Students'
academic history must meet the Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress
(SAP) as established by the Office of Financial Aid.
NOTE: SAP is used to determine federal student aid eligibility only.
It does not reflect students' academic standing for continued enrollment
in their programs of study.
Section 1: Standards of SAP Requirements by Student Level
Students shall be reviewed for two standards on an annual
basis to determine their federal student aid eligibility at Wright State

two standards vary by student level: undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral.

by their professional program of study.

Students can view their individual SAP status via WINGS Express. Logon to
WINGS Express, click on Student and Financial Aid, then click on Financial
Aid and Scholarships, and then click on Academic Progress.
Good Standing: The student (a) has met the minimum cumulative GPA
and minimum cumulative credit hours earned for Good Standing; and (b) has
not exceeded the 150% rule. The student is eligible for federal student
aid for the effective aid year.
Good Standing by Appeal: The student has successfully appealed an
Unsatisfactory status and is eligible for federal student aid. Students
are not eligible to receive federal student aid for those quarters in which
they had been assigned an Unsatisfactory SAP status.
Warning: The undergraduate student has not met the SAP requirements
for Good Standing, but, (a) has met the minimum cumulative GPA and minimum
cumulative credit hours earned for Warning; and (b) has not exceeded the
150% rule. The student is eligible for federal student aid for the effective
aid year. A student is assigned a Warning for no more than one aid year.
A student cannot be assigned a Warning after being assigned Good Standing
by Appeal or after being assigned an Unsatisfactory SAP status.
Unsatisfactory: The student (a) has not met
the SAP requirements for Good Standing, Warning, or had been assigned a
Warning for a previous aid year and has failed to meet Good Standing; and/or
(b) has exceeded the 150% rule. The student is ineligible for federal student
aid for the effective aid year. Students will remain ineligible for federal
student aid unless they successfully appeal or re-establish their eligibility
on their own. Students are not eligible to receive federal student aid for
any term in which they have been assigned an Unsatisfactory SAP status.
2.1 Appealing an Unsatisfactory SAP Status
Students
who have been assigned an Unsatisfactory SAP status may appeal to the Office
of Financial Aid if extenuating circumstances have affected their ability
to meet the SAP requirements.
To appeal, students must submit to the Office of Financial Aid a written
statement of their circumstance and supporting documentation when applicable.
Students must include their University ID (UID) on all correspondence. Appeals
should be submitted to Willie Boyd, Director, Office of Financial Aid, Wright
State University, Dayton OH, 45435. Letters of appeal can also be sent by
facsimile to (937) 775-5795 or by e-mail to
willie.boyd@wright.edu. If the appeal is approved, federal student aid
eligibility shall be granted for the remaining quarters of the effective
aid year. Students are not eligible to receive federal student aid for those
quarters in which they had been assigned an Unsatisfactory SAP status.
2.2
Reinstatement of Federal Student Aid Eligibility
Students who have been assigned an Unsatisfactory
SAP status may re-establish their eligibility on their own, be it their appeals
were denied or they chose not to appeal. Students must contact the Office
of Financial Aid in order to determine their SAP status once they feel they've
met the standards.
Section 3: Notifications
Students with a Warning or Unsatisfactory SAP status will receive
notification from the Office of Financial Aid via WSU e-mail that their SAP
status is available to view on WINGS Express.
