Federal Aid Limit

As required by federal regulations, students are permitted to receive federal financial aid for a maximum of 6 years as full-time students or the equivalent as part-time students.

To comply with federal regulations, no further federal financial aid may be awarded to undergraduate students that have exceeded the 6 year limit. This limitation applies to the following federal student assistance programs:

  • Pell Grant
  • FSEOG Grant
  • Perkins Loan
  • Stafford Loans
  • PLUS Loan
  • Work-Study

If extraordinary circumstances have occurred that you feel should be reviewed by the Office of Financial Aid for a possible extension of the six-year limitation, an appeal letter can be written to the Director of Financial Aid, Willie Boyd. The appeal letter should include a date in which the student anticipates graduating.

Students also have a maximum amount of aid that they are able to borrow from Stafford Loan programs (subsidized and unsubsidized combined). Below is a list of the maximum amounts of loans a student is able to borrow. The student cannot appeal this limit.
