In order to improve acoustical performance for the unamplified natural voice within
the Festival Playhouse a reshaping of the reflective and absorptive architectural
surfaces was required. The theatrical consulting firm Jones & Phillips, acoustical
firm Aercoustics and structural engineering firm THP collaborated on the design of these
improvements. They include "clouds" - curved overhead panels above the thrust portion of
the stage and moveable "tower panels" located in the ante proscenium side stage areas
similar to an orchestra shell. The manufacturing and installation was accomplished
after the close of the 2007-2008 theatre season by Rhecors General Contractors and their
theatrical specialty subcontractor Secoa.
