Wright State University is committed to the success of women
administrators and faculty. Through the vision and support
of the President's Office, Wright State University has
sent over a dozen candidates to the Bryn Mawr Summer Institute
for Women in Higher Education Administration since 1986. This
prestigious and competitive nomination is an excellent professional
development opportunity for WSU faculty and staff who are
preparing for increased administrative responsibilities.
The Summer Institute is a residential program that offers
women administrators and faculty intensive training in education
administration. The Institute is composed of four curricular
units (Strategic Vision, Resource Management, Organizational Skills, Institutional Impact) that provide participants
with a comprehensive and diverse perspectives on current
issues in higher education. The Institute places emphasis
on the globalization of higher education and the growing
diversity of the student body and workforce.
The purpose of the Summer Institute is to improve the status
of women in the middle and executive levels of higher education
administration, areas in which women traditionally have been
under-represented. The unique aspect of the Institute is its
commitment to the development of a professional network of
skilled women administrators ready to be mutually supportive
and to work cooperatively to enlarge the professional opportunities
for women in higher education. This network is extended through
interaction with Summer Institute faculty, women, and men drawn
from government, foundations, professional associations, and
the diverse sectors of North American higher education.
