Women in Art: Unheard Voices
Unheard Voices began in 2000 as a collaborative effort of the YWCA Dayton, the Women’s Center, the Women’s Studies Program, and four women artists. Since then, the artists from the current year have identified and mentored new artists for the upcoming year. Women in Art: Unheard Voices showcases the work of women who have not yet shown a full body of their work publicly. View highlights from last year’s reception in our photo gallery or look at last year’s brochure here in order to meet the 2006 artists who will serve as the 2007 Unheard Voices mentors.
Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day
Held the fourth Thursday of April, this annual event is sponsored by the Ms. Foundation for Women, creator of Take Our Daughters to Work Day in 1993. Celebrated at Wright State University since that same year, Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day invites WSU faculty and staff to bring their sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and other special children in their lives to campus. After an opening session, children ages 8-15 attend concurrent sessions that explore careers in the sciences, arts, and other fields, as well as sessions on life skills such as managing cash, keeping a journal, and communicating with others. In 2006, over 200 mentors and children participated in this event. For more information, visit the WSU Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day site and our 2006 photo gallery.
THE HEALTHY WOMAN Series
This new program series (launched Fall Quarter 2006) creates a forum in which women can ask questions and get important information about their bodies, their lives, and their health. The series focuses on five aspects of women’s health: physical, mental, social, financial, and legal. THE HEALTHY WOMAN is composed of a series of lectures, tabling events, and other forms of outreach, and each session is cosponsored with a campus unit, WSU student organization, or community partner. Information about the 2008 Winter Quarter series can be downloaded here.
Women Faculty Rendezvous
Started in the mid 1990s, the Rendezvous is a quarterly networking opportunity for both seasoned and new women faculty. Past Rendezvous participants have enjoyed gathering to renew acquaintances, meet new faculty, share successes, hear about opportunities, and sometimes seek advice from other women faculty. Planned and implemented in partnership with the Women’s Studies Program, the Rendezvous continues to contribute to the personal and professional success of WSU women faculty.
