The Women’s Center’s Early Years

Due to the recommendations of the Task Force on the Status of Women in the Academy and the work of many administrators and allies, the Women’s Center opens in 1993.

Dr. Mary Beth Pringle, Chair of the Task Force and Interim Director of the Women’s Center, welcomes the crowd.

Dr. Pringle honors Dr. Charles Hathaway, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who commissioned the Task Force on the Status of Women in the Academy after a persistent letter-writing campaign led by community member Gert Chasens.

Since 1993, the Women’s Center has served campus and the community.  Pictured here are two students with Director Dr. Paulette Olson.
