Call
to Order:
University Faculty President Jack Dustin called the meeting
to order at 2:30 p.m.in 219 Rike Hall.

Business

suspension of the rules will be requested to move Items D & E to Old
Business.
D. Master in Public Health* – Jay
Thomas (Attachment B) (share with
Dr.. Thomas and Dr. Schuster)Motion to suspend the rules was moved, seconded,
and approved. Motion to accept the
proposal was moved and seconded.
Dean Thomas spoke to the review process of the degree program. The full proposal was approved by a
Reading Committee; approved by the Graduate Policies Committee; approved by
Graduate Council; presented to Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee at
their May 30 meeting. Dr. Schuster
spoke to the content of the degree and the lack of an MPH degree in this
region. The need for the degree is
driven by the Public Health community.
This program is housed in the School of Medicine but to be offered in
collaboration with six other colleges.
The motion was Approved.
E. Ratification of Committee Appointments
for 2003-04 – Jack Dustin
(Attachment C - To be distributed at the meeting.) Motion to suspend the
rules moved and seconded, Approved to move to old business for September 29,
2003
Discussion by Senator Voss concerning Drop Date Policy (item
C of new business), requesting a specific proposal concerning at the September
meeting, suggesting for example that the drop dates be consolidated at the end
of week 7 or perhaps the end of week 8, so as to allow a window of opportunity
to drop after 60% of the quarter. President Dustin commented that during New
Business items will be discussed before the following meeting presentation and
voted on as Old Business.
Senator Lindsey asked that items being
moved from New to Old Business be moved up in the agenda before faculty have
class commitments.
