In Case of Emergency

At Wright State University, your safety is our number one priority. Please familiarize yourself with the following information.

Emergency Phone Numbers

In the event of an emergency on campus that requires immediate assistance, please dial 9-1-1 from a campus phone or (937) 775-2111 from a cell phone.

Students and faculty can call the general university number, (937) 775-3333 to seek information for non-emergency needs.

Emergency Response Plan

Download the Wright State University Emergency Guide (PDF). Please print out a copy of this and familiarize yourself with how to respond to emergencies BEFORE they occur.

For additional information or guidance, please contact the WSU Police Department at (937) 775-2056 or WSU Environmental Health and Safety at (937) 775-2215.

A few tips of what to do in the event of an emergency:

  • Remain calm.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Try to remember as many details as possible.
  • Call 9-1-1 on a campus phone or (937) 775-2111 from your cell phone. If no phone is handy, locate the nearest Blue Emergency Phone or Yellow Call Box.
  • Do not use elevators unless specifically operated by Fire Department personnel.
  • If the disturbance is outside, stay away from doors or windows and stay inside.
  • If ordered to evacuate, do so immediately and move to a designated safe area at least 300 feet away from the building (or leave campus by the most direct route if the campus is evacuated).
  • If your clothes catch on fire, STOP, DROP, and ROLL.
  • Do not move a person who is injured or in a medical emergency unless the situation demands it.
This is just a partial list. Please refer to the Wright State University Emergency Guide for additional information and more specific details.

On-Campus Emergency Phones and Call Boxes

If at any time you feel threatened or have need for emergency assistance, these phones and call boxes are here to connect you with real help. Take the time to locate the emergency phones and call boxes nearest you while you work your way across campus.

Positioned strategically about campus, you will notice the Emergency Telephones with the blue lights that will connect you immediately with the University Police Communications Center.

Indoors, yellow emergency Call Boxes can be activated to ring directly to the University Police Communications Center.

Silent Witness

Protect yourself and those around you while retaining your anonymity. If you have witnessed a crime or other questionable activity occurring on campus and you would like to report it, please click here to complete an anonymous online form. However, you may provide your name, phone number and email address.

Closing Procedures

Students and faculty may call the Information Booth Line, (937) 775-5740, the general university number, (937) 775-3333, or visit the university's Web site for updates.

An emergency closing of Wright State University will be implemented only under severe and extreme circumstances. All employees are expected to report to work unless they specifically hear otherwise. Every effort will be made to maintain classes. However, when weather conditions and/or a declared state of emergency due to other factors warrants, the university may delay the opening of the university or implement an emergency closing of the university. View the list of media stations you can turn to for closings & delays.

The decision to close for a full day or to delay the opening of the university, excluding the Ervin J. Nutter Center unless specifically mentioned, should be made by 5:00 a.m. If the need to close is identified during the day, the decision will be communicated throughout the campus and through the designated media. If the decision is made to close the campus, university officials will notify all employees and students.

Should the university be closed, the College of Nursing and Health, the School of Professional Psychology, and university libraries will also be closed. The Boonshoft School of Medicine, the Frederick A. White Center, and the Nutter Center have developed internal procedures for emergency closing. The staffs of these areas will determine their status after consultation with the appropriate university officials and event promoters (which may include WSU Athletic Department).
