WSU Police Patch
Beginning in August of 1998, Officer Marcus Wyatt had a plan for a new police patch for the department. The new Biplane logo established by the university afforded police officers with an approach to update their new patch. Several ideas were generated which incorporated the Biplane with Wright State University Police Department "Police" designation. The Seal of the State of Ohio had to take a backseat to the new look, as there just was not enough room for everything to fit on the much needed, updated police patch. We started with a hand drawn depiction of what the new patch could look like, there were many stages through which the design has evolved. The hand drawn patch was first presented to the Office of Communications and Marketing for approval. The Office of Communications and Marketing made suggestions, corrections in size and helped to develop the police/biplane logo for the patch. Over the next several months, the officers viewed and reviewed many interpretations of text and color combinations. Finally, the patch was narrowed down to a prototype of the finished product and the color copy was sent to be reproduced so that we could all see what it would really look like. The initial patch was disappointing as the printing was not clear and the color was not as striking as we had hoped. Out of the clear blue came another company that said they could beat the quality of that patch and improve the color as well. The quality was far superior to the initial patch. The printing was clearer and the color was great. The outlining colors were too wide and there was too much "going on" in the body of the patch with the gold, green, red and white. Finally, the next sample was perfect. We hope you like the final product. The new Wright State University Police patch is the result of a lot of hard work, cooperation, diligence, and most of all, patience! The Retired Patch![]() The Wright State University Special Police of the Security Office were put in to effect by the Board of Trustees in 1967. The Special Police members took an oath of office, wore the badge of the office of the Special Police. They were responsible for regulating traffic and issuing citations for violations on campus. In the proceedings for the Board of Trustees meeting in December of 1967 there were 2 Special Police members appointed. The current Wright State University Police Department retired police patch is shown above. The Wright State University Police Department has implemented a new patch design that incorporates the new University logo. The patch is displayed on the right and left sleeve of the police officers uniform. The patch contains the State of Ohio seal imposed on top of the Wright State University logo. The color of blue in the embroidery matches the color of the police officer's uniform. Gold and green are the official colors of Wright State University. |
