Communications/Lost and Found

The Wright State University Police Department maintains a 24 hour 7 day a week Communication Center. The Communication Center is the "communications hub" of the Police Department. The Communication Center monitors the telephone calls and radio traffic received by the department.

The Communication Center also monitors all alarms (Fire - Police - Maintenance). Communication Center Operators use the Automated Records Management System (ARMS) to record police officers calls. Communication Center operators have access to Division of Motor Vehicle information for law enforcement related business through the L.E.A.D.S computer system.

Dispatching is a tough and demanding job. The old saying of "when it rains, it pours" describes the Communication Center operator's job. The Communication Center operator's responsibilities include: Telephone response, radio monitoring and response alarm monitoring, record keeping, key control and response to the walk-up service window. The job requires highly trained and competent personnel.

The Communication Center also maintains the Wright State Police Department Lost & Found. For information on lost items or to contact the Wright State University Communication Center in 060 Allyn Hall.

The Communication Center phone numbers are as follows:
x911 (emergency only)
x2111 (on campus)
x2112 (lost and found)
or 775-2111 (from an off campus location)

Student Employees

The Wright State University Police Department is fortunate to employ a number of Wright State University students in three types of roles: Student patrol officer, S.A.F.E (Student Association for Escorts) and student clerical assistant.  Student patrol officer, S.A.F.E and clerical  positions are filled through the Office of Student Employment.

The department attempts to staff twenty-five student patrol officer positions who operate the S.A.F.E. van, except during summer quarter and two student clerical employee positions.

Student patrol officers patrol the university grounds and buildings, report crime and safety concerns, and provide safety escorts. They work approximately 20 hours each per week. A limited background investigation, reference check and a criminal history inquiry, is conducted on all applicants considered for these positions.

S.A.F.E personnel are responsible for providing safety escorts on the main campus and the residence communities. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to utilize S.A.F.E personnel for safety escorts by dialing x2111. When Student patrol officers and S.A.F.E personnel are not on duty, a Wright State University Police officer can provide a safety escort on campus.

The student clerical assistants work 15-20 hours per week. Our student clerical assistants serve the department as receptionists, and perform clerical tasks. They interact with the community by telephone, by greeting the department visitors and members of the community at 118 Campus Services Building. Other duties include light bookkeeping, filing, and light typing. Our clerical assistants are supervised by the Wright State University Police Department's Administrative Assistant.
