Bike Patrol

The Wright State University Police Officers riding bicycles on the Wright State campus are not just taking an
exercise break from their cruisers. They are performing a work assignment, effective October 2, 1992, as part of
the Police Department Bicycle Patrol.
The Wright State University Bicycle Patrol is a community-based policing program that will allow Wright State
University Police Officers to provide better service.
The Wright State University Bicycle Patrol has three primary objectives:
- To broaden personal contact with the university community,
- To increase awareness of a police presence on campus, and
- To supplement crime prevention opportunities.
The Wright State University Police Officers were carefully selected and trained for this assignment. The officers
have been trained to use the bicycle to make traffic stops, citizen and suspect contacts, and to safely handle the bicycle in a crisis situation.
Training was provided by the Dayton Police Department Bicycle Patrol—the largest full-time, year-round bicycle
patrol in the Midwest.
Wright State bicycle patrol officers hold nationally recognized cyclist safety certification in addition to bicycle patrol training certificates.
