Please follow these instructions carefully.
If you encounter any problems with the installation process, please STOP and contact Printing Services at extension 2117.
The following link will download the Xerox printer description file to your computer. Save this file on the desktop. Instead of simply clicking the link, please click and hold the mouse button down. A small dialogue box will appear. Pull down to "Save this link as" and release. When the "save file" dialogue appears, click the box labeled "Desktop" followed by the box labeled "Save."
Download XEROX DocuTech Driver (click and hold mouse button down)
There will now be a file labeled "Xerox6100NoFont.ppd" on the desktop.
Next, move this file to the correct location in your System folder.
Begin by double-clicking the startup disk drive on your computer. This is the icon located in the upper-right corner of the desktop.
Scroll down to the folder icon labeled "System Folder" and double-click.
Scroll down to the folder icon labeled "Extensions" and double-click.
Scroll down to the folder icon labeled "Printer Descriptions" and double-click.
In the "Printer Descriptions" folder, delete any existing files with names that begin with xrdt, Xerox Docutech, or Xerox Docuprint. Close the "Printer Descriptions" folder.
Drag the icon labeled "xrd61001.ppd" from your desktop onto the closed "Printer Descriptions" folder icon.
Close all open folders and RESTART your computer.
After restarting, open the "Chooser" located under the "Apple" menu. Click and hold down the mouse button on the Apple icon, and pull down to the line labeled "Chooser".
With the Chooser open, click on the icon labeled "LaserWriter 8". In the selection box on the lower left side of the Chooser, scroll and click the zone labeled "SB_ServicesBuilding". After selecting the zone, you will see a variety of devices listed in the upper right side of the Chooser. Click on the line marked "doc6100". Next click the box labeled "Create".
The computer will pause momentarily to communicate with the DocuTech system and a dialogue box will appear with the message "Building Desktop Printer".
Close the "Chooser" box.
A new icon for the DocuTech will appear on your desktop labeled "doc6100". At this point the system will have set the DocuTech as your current printer.
Click the icon for your usual printer. Go to the "Printing" menu at the top
of the screen and pull down to the bottom line, "Set Default Printer".
This completes the installation phase and will not need to be repeated.
