Every two years, Wright State University receives funding from the State of Ohio to be used for capital construction projects. This along with other sources, provides funding for projects such as new building construction, building renovations, land improvements and building infrastructure upgrades. The following is a listing of projects in the queue.

ELECTRICAL INFRASTRUCTURE PHASE I

Project Manager: Scott Moniaci
Project Description
Several of the campus buildings have electrical distribution equipment that has become obsolete and can no longer be serviced. Parts are not available and when failure occurs it would cause extensive electrical power outages thus rendering those buildings unusable.
This project will replace many of those systems that are outdated and obsolete. Completion of this project will bring those buildings distribution systems up to par with our other buildings on campus which have already been updated through total building renovation projects.
Project Update
Phase Ia, Ib and Id are complete, phase Ic will be complete by the end of the year.

RUSS ENGINEERING EXPANSION

Project Description
The Russ Engineering Expansion will create research space for the grant supported data management program in the state. A four-story building addition is in design with construction to begin April 2005. Construction will be complete in July 2006. Current design will finish the lower level of the building as an add alternate to the project. Funding sources are capital funds, Third Frontier grants and local dollars.
Project Update
The project is currently in the construction phase. The foundation is complete and steel is being erected.

FRED WHITE CENTER EXPANSION & RENOVATION

Project Manager: Javan Conley
Project Description
The Fred White Center Addition and Renovation project will renovate the existing building and construct an addition to the Fred White Center. This project concept will allow the Wright State University School of Medicine program to teach both first and second year medical students in this facility. The new addition will include labs for the Gross Anatomy program and additional lecture halls. Renovations to the Fred White Center will accommodate offices for Student Affairs and new computer labs, classrooms and study areas for the medical students. Design is complete and construction of the building addition will begin October 2005. The second phase of construction will renovate vacated portions of the building.
Project Update
The bidding process is complete and contracts are being awarded.

SCIENCE LAB RENOVATIONS
Project Manager: Mike Schulze & Beverly Denlinger
Project Description
Wright State University is in the planning stages of renovating the science labs on the main campus. The science labs are 25-30 years old and are in need of major rehabilitation. The 2004 academic year targeted outcomes are as follows: a requisite analysis of current and future needs, development of a Program of Requirements, cost estimate, and construction phasing alternatives for the designated lab areas. The current project scope will renovate Biological Sciences I and II, Brehm Lab and Oelman Hall basement, first and second floors and construct a new building with some shell space for future science initiatives. The renovation will encompass approximately 206,000 gross square feet and 132,000 assignable square feet. BHDP is the associate architect preparing the Program of Requirements.

LAKE CAMPUS RENOVATIONS

Project Manager: Mike Schulze
Project Description
Lake Campus Renovations will rehabilitate most of the existing building areas on campus. Included are modifications to the science labs, refurbishment of the classrooms and computer labs, and general upgrades to improve unit functionality. Also included will be an addition of an assembly area to the south side of Dwyer Hall. Programming continues as funding is being determined.

STUDENT UNION RENOVATION

Project Manager: Javan Conley
Project Description
This renovation will expand the health, wellness and recreation offerings in the basement of the Student Union to serve a growing population of health conscious students, faculty and staff . Design is complete and includes a new fitness center with multi-purpose rooms; building and swimming pool upgrades; new Student Organization offices and offices for Student Life, Student Health Services and Psychological Services. Phase I of construction will start in November of 2005 which will include the recreation center. Phase I construction will be complete summer of 2006 and Phase II will be complete summer 2007.

Bids are being reviewed and contracts will be awarded during October 2005

Projects funded from this source include roof replacements, mechanical and electrical equipment upgrades and exterior upgrades. CREATIVE ARTS CENTER HVAC UPGRADE

Project Manager: Bev Denlinger
Project Description
The Creative Arts Center was constructed in 1973 with north and south additions in 1988. This building houses the University Theatre, Music, and Art Departments. The original HVAC systems consisted of small multi-zone air handling units serving a single floor or portions of a floor. These units are past their useful life and can no longer be maintained. The scope of this project is to replace the numerous outdated HVAC units with larger equipment for more efficient operation and maintenance. This project will also address temperature and noise. Construction will begin in the summer of 2005 and take approximately one year to complete.
Project Update
Equipment replacement for the theater wing was completed over summer 2005. Screenwalls to screen the equipment are planned to be installed fall 2005. The Music wing is scheduled for equipment replacement winter 05/06 with Art wing work planned summer 2006. The entire project will be complete by fall 2006
