Position Summary:    The Assistant Dean of Diversity and Inclusion will serve as administrator and assistant in the development of programs within the Boonshoft School of Medicine that will enhance the recruitment, retention, and professional enrichment of underrepresented minority medical students.

Education and Experience:     Must have a M.D. degree and qualifications consistent with an appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Excellent communication, organizational, and management skills. Experience in developing and implementing diversity programs.  M.D. degree and qualifications consistent with an appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level according to WSU-BSOM bylaws.

Preferred: Experience teaching medical students.

Working Conditions: The Assistant of Diversity and Inclusion will be assigned office space in the WSU BSOM Office of Student Affairs located at 190 White Hall. The Assistant Dean of Diversity and Inclusion will also have assigned professional duties and office space at the Dayton VA.


Position Description:  

Professional duties for VAMC patient care.

Administration and development of programs within the School of Medicine focused on healthcare disparities and/or students from underrepresented groups or nontraditional backgrounds including Horizons in Medicine and the summer prematriculation program.

Development and implementation of strategies and programs addressing the recruitment and retention of students from groups suffering from healthcare disparities and currently underrepresented advisors, premedical minority student premedical minority student organizations, high school counselors, etc.

Academic, personal, and career advising for minority medical students and students pursuing academic and career opportunities that address issues related to minority health and health care disparities.

Monitoring the academic, social, and professional milieu for students from groups underrepresented in medicine with intervention as advocate when needed.

Supervison of Office of Diversity & Inclussion staff including Director for Academic Support and Recruitment. Locating sources of funding for program support including preparation of grant applications. Developing and maintaining relationships with members of the Gem City Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Society and other community or professional organizations that can serve as members for students from groups underrepresented in medicine and those interested in minority health issues.
