Prescription Drug Coverage at WSU

The WSU Pharmacy is a provider for both the Maintenance Drug Program and Anthem, the University's provider of health care. The Maintenance Drug Program is available to all employees and their dependents who elect health care coverage through the Wright State University. The Anthem Prescription Plans are available either through the Blue Preferred Primary Network or the Blue Access PPO Plan for employees and their dependents who elect health care coverage through WSU. The Maintenance Drug Plan is a benefit to the employees above and beyond the two Anthem Prescription Plans.

Through the Anthem Prescription Plan, employees receive only one month of medication. Under the Wright State University Maintenance Drug Plan, medications can be obtained for up to a three-month supply. Following is a summary of charges under the two plans.

Anthem

  Generic $8.00/month
  Brand Formulary $25.00/month
  Brand Non-Formulary $40.00/month

Maintenance Drug Program

  Generic $12.00/3 months
  Brand Formulary $22.00/3 months*
  Brand Non-Formulary $N/A

*Brand name medications whose cost exceeds $220.00 are subject to a 10% co-pay. For example, the cost of a three-month supply of Zocor 80 mg is $305.20. Therefore, an employee would pay $30.52.

Diabetic supplies, such as syringes, lancets, and test strips, are covered by Anthem in 100 count prescriptions at no charge. Infertility medications are covered at a 50% co-pay. The Maintenance Drug Plan has very few exclusions. Examples of exclusions are agents for weight loss, anabolic steroids, products for hair restoration, and IM or IV meds covered as a medical benefit. For specific questions, please call the Pharmacy.

Prescriptions may be brought to the WSU Pharmacy in several ways. By far and away, most of our prescriptions are hand-written blanks. Second, your physician may call in a verbal order for most medications. Third, some physician offices are starting to FAX orders to us. Fourth, we transfer existing prescriptions from other pharmacies. In order to get a 90-day supply, we ask you to have your prescriber to write the prescription as a 90-day supply and not a 30-day supply with refills.
