Divisions

Located on the staging area of the outdoor amphitheatre is Linda Cunningham’s work, Divisions. This creation originally resided in front of the New York City United Nations Building and was transferred to Wright State’s campus in 1998. The scarred wood and twisted steel are arranged in six groups, each housing a plaque inscribed with Emmanuel Lévinas’ “Totalité et Infini” translated into different languages [French (original context), Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish and English]. This piece was designed to speak to societal division and its consequences.
