Safe Use of Radioactive Materials Training Course

University Radiation Safety Office
104 Health Sciences Bldg ~ Office Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm

The Safe Use of Radioactive Materials course provides instruction to new users of radioactive materials. The curriculum covers radioactivity, radiation detection, biological effects of radiation, personal protective measures, user responsibilities, and regulatory requirements. Practical exercises using radiation detection equipment complete the course.

The Radiation Safety Office offers the Safe Use of Radioactive Materials course several times each year. The class lasts about 4 hours. Authorized Users are emailed course times and dates.

WebCT Format

The WebCT course format allows individuals to complete most of the curriculum using WSU’s intranet. Persons fulfill the course requirement at their own convenience, at their own pace. The course consists of three Powerpoint modules available on WebCT and a practical exercise. Quizzes following each module demonstrate completion of the course curriculum. A practical exercise using radiation detection equipment and reviewing important regulatory issues fulfills the course requirements.

Students register for the course by providing their WSU computer ID (i.e., W###XXX) to Dramane Konate, Radiation Safety Officer (775-2169, dramane.konate@wright.edu). Once registered, Dramane will email the student with instructions on accessing the course. The student should finish the WebCT course within 2 weeks.
