Our Mission

The mission of the Office of Risk Management, in support of the Wright State University mission, is to provide a comprehensive risk management program which preserves the assets of the institution and protects the physical well-being of students, faculty, staff and visitors engaged in university-related activities. Proven risk management techniques will be used that identify loss exposures, analyze loss exposures to predict potential losses, examine feasible risk management alternatives to reduce and finance losses, and implement and monitor various risk management measures.

About Us

The Office of Risk Management values its role as the University's manager of risk which, left unaddressed, could adversely affect the University. Our desire is to accomplish our mission by meeting specific goals and objectives that are supported by principles such as meeting the needs of various departments, supporting the educational goals of the University, providing effective and timely service, and practicing good communication with other departments.

We consider the preservation of institutional assets and the reduction or elimination of risk to students, faculty, staff and visitors to be of utmost importance. In order to better understand the role of the Office of Risk Management, the following are a sample of the responsibilities of the department.

Develop, administer, and supervise various university-wide risk management policies and procedures, which help reduce the frequency and severity of losses.

Provide support to all departments, faculty, staff, and students through the evaluation of possible sources of loss, and recommend or develop cost effective methods to control the exposures.

Manage and oversee procurement of insurance products to meet the special insurance coverage needs of the University. This includes managing the property and casualty program via the Inter-University Council Insurance Consortium and the purchase of various ancillary policies.

Oversee the development and maintenance of a comprehensive, university-wide emergency management program, which includes business continuity plans. The emergency management program encompasses preparing for, responding to, recovering from and mitigating natural and technological hazards,
