Student Audit Program

About the Program

The student audit program is sponsored by WSU's Office of Internal Controls and Audit Services and the Accountancy Department of the Raj Soin College of Business. This program is designed to provide Masters of Accountancy students with hands-on experience in planning, executing, and reporting an internal audit project. Its objective is to give each student the opportunity to develop audit skills related to assessing risk, interviewing audit customers, flowcharting a system, and presenting an audit report in a teamwork environment. It also allows the university internal auditors to leverage the additional resources in order to view their audit coverage with fresh eyes.

The main value of this program is to teach students certain skills that are difficult to develop in a classroom environment. These skills include audit customer management, project management, work paper organization, team working and audit risk decision making skills. This class has been fondly remembered as a capstone accounting course and received excellent reviews by its participants and comments by its audit clients.

Student auditing often leads to full-time employee status with companies like Deloitte, Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, THOR Industries, The Ohio State University, Wilberforce University, Wright State University, or positions with small local businesses needing to establish accounting and management systems. Students gain auditing experience in finance, compliance, and operational areas.
