  • Chinese-Vietnamese New Year Celebration (The Year of the Rat)

    Wednesday, February 6th
    Multipurpose Room, Student Union
    11:45 a.m. - 3 p.m.
    Admission: Free with valid WSU-ID, $5.00 General Public
     

    Performances

     

    Noon – 1:00 p.m.:

    • Brief presentation on the meaning of Chinese & Vietnamese New Year

    • Chinese folk dances

    • Kitchen God report

    • Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Thai Kickboxing, Filipino Kali and Jiujitsu-Grappling demonstrations

     

    Foods & Featured Booths

     

    11:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.:

    • Complimentary Chinese dumplings, Vietnamese spring rolls and special New Year’s sweets

    • Complimentary Year-of-the-Rat necklaces/nametags/bookmarks in Chinese calligraphy

    • Fortune telling

    • Traditional Chinese/Vietnamese games

    • Souvenir booth

    • Great Wall and Vietnamese New Year’s backdrops for pictures

    • Vietnamese New Year’s flower market

    • Special Japanese paper-folding cards and framed art by Marian Thomas on display and for sale

     

    Cox Arboretum Bonsai Society Show & Sale
     

    Display and sale of bonsai plants from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Free Bonsai demonstrations at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.: information shown and discussed on potting, root-trimming, tree-trimming and landscaping.  If you have an ailing bonsai plant, you can receive some tips on reviving it.
