Domestic Partner Benefits

Wright State University Chapter

American Association of University Professors

On November 16, 2006, AAUP-WSU and the administration signed the agreement below.

Agreement on Domestic Partner Benefits
November 16, 2006

Beginning January 1, 2007 the University will offer the same benefits to all domestic partners of Bargaining Unit Faculty Members as it does to the spouses of Members, and at the same cost. To be eligible to receive such benefits, a Member and domestic partner must declare and document their domestic partnership by completing and signing the Affidavit of Domestic Partnership, a copy of which is attached. In addition, to receive medical, dental and vision insurance coverages for a domestic partner, a Member must provide all requested information on the Health Care Enrollment/Change form in the same way such information is provided for spouses and other dependents.

It is the University’s intention of maintaining domestic partner benefits for an indefinite period of time, however the provisions of Article 35 of the CBA will apply to this Agreement.

This agreement continues through June 30, 2008 with the expectation that the parties will negotiate continued domestic partner benefits in a 2008-2011 CBA.

The "Affidavit of Domestic Partnership" noted in the agreement will require the partners to declare the following.

  1. We are at least 18 years of age and competent to enter into a contract.
  2. We are not married and are not the domestic partner of any other person.
  3. We have been living together as a couple, share a residence, and have done so for more than
six (6) consecutive months prior to this declaration.
  4. We are not related to each other by blood in a manner that would bar marriage in the State of
    Ohio.
  5. At least twelve (12) months have passed since the termination of any previous domestic
    relationship.
  6. We attest that our relationship is an exclusive mutual commitment; that is:
  7. We are submitting the following supporting documentation to verify our interdependent
    financial relationship:

Bargaining Unit Faculty with questions about this agreement are invited to contact any of the chapter officers.
