English 101 is a workshop course. Unlike many of your college courses, this will NOT be a lecture course in which you sit and take notes. You will be expected to come to class and to DO things, including participating in discussions, working in small groups, critiquing each other's work, writing informal papers, freewriting, revising and editing formal papers, etc.
Attendance, then, is required. You cannot participate within a community of writers if you are not here. If you miss 4 classes, regardless of your grade up to that point, you will receive a grade of "F" for the course.
There are NO make-up assignments.
Papers must come in on the DEADLINE or they will not receive credit.
Formal papers must be WORD PROCESSED. Plan for this now.
You must be willing to complete assignments on the COMPUTER, using Wordperfect or Microsoft Word, Electronic Mail, and the Internet. You will learn how to use these computer programs early in the quarter. You will need to practice these programs and complete a number of assignments using these programs outside of class.
PLAGIARISM is a serious offence and can result
in failure and/or university disciplinary action. You are responsible
for understanding what plagiarism is and avoiding it. We will discuss
plagiarism early in the quarter.
