LEAP Curriculum

Pre-LEAP (Beginning)

Students in Pre-LEAP learn the basics of English.

Level 1 (High Beginning)

This level is designed for high beginners. Students learn the fundamentals of English for basic communication and preparation for academic reading, writing, and grammar.

Level 2 (Low Intermediate/Intermediate)

Level 2 is designed for low-intermediate / intermediate students. Students continue to build on the fundamentals of English with more challenging and longer assignments.

Level 3 (High Intermediate)

Level 3 is designed for high-intermediate students. Students advance their English skills through pre-university assignments and activities to prepare for Level 4.

Level 4 (Advanced)

Level 4 includes advanced preparation in reading, writing, listening and note-taking for students preparing to enter the university. Students in Level 4 take two LEAP courses, Advanced Academic Success and Advanced Reading and Writing. In addition, they take one university class for credit towards their degree. Undergraduate students take a General Education course such as Sociology, Economics, or Regional Studies. Graduate students take a course in their field, determined in a meeting with a department advisor.
