We cordially invite you and your finest choral singers to an extraordinary event at Wright State University: THE 8TH ANNUAL MAD RIVER VOCAL ARTS FESTIVAL! This two-day event, Sunday & Monday, October 19 & 20, 2008, features a highly select choir composed of high school singers from all over the Midwest. Our guest conductor and clinician for the event is Dr. Charles Robinson. Dr. Robinson will work with the Mad River Honor Choir, comprised of over 150 highly select high school singers.

FESTIVAL CLINICIAN: Charles Robinson

Dr. Charles Robinson

Charles Robinson is Professor of Choral Music Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where his teaching opportunities include the Conservatory Concert Choir, choral conducting and literature, and choral methods. Dr. Robinson currently serves as Chair of the Music Education/Music Therapy division of the Conservatory of Music and Dance.

Dr. Robinson earned bachelor and doctoral degrees in choral music education from Florida State University and master degree from California State University, Long Beach. He taught choral and general music in middle schools and high schools in Florida, and has worked with singers of all ages from children through senior citizens. Dr. Robinson is an active conductor/clinician for elementary, junior high and high school honor choruses throughout the United States, and is often invited to provide workshops for music educators. Most recently, he has conducted all-state choruses in Indiana, Maine, Florida, West Virginia and North Dakota and presented workshops at the Wyoming Music Educators Association and the Illinois Choral Directors Association. An active member of the American Choral Directors Association, he has served as Southwestern Division chair for Ethnic & Multicultural Perspectives, College/University Choruses and has served as President of the Missouri Choral Directors Association.

Dr. Robinson's music research has focused on choral performance evaluation, music preference, and choral conducting. He has presented and published research at the state, regional and national levels of the Music Educators National Conference and the American Music Therapy Association. Dr. Robinson is a past editor of the Missouri Journal of Research in Music Education and currently serves on its editorial review board.

Dr. Robinson is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, and has twice been the recipient of the prestigious Muriel McBrien Kauffman Excellence in Teaching Award (1991 & 1999) and Meritorious Service Award (2006) for the UMKC Conservatory of Music. The Missouri Choral Directors Association presented Dr. Robinson with the 2000 Luther T. Spayde Award of Excellence for significant contributions to choral music in Missouri.
