The Institute's success has led to the publication of two books

written and edited by Institute faculty and participants:

Why Workshop? Changing Course in 7-12 English, ed. Richard Bullock (York, ME: Stenhouse Books, 1998). Nine essays by former Institute participants who transformed their teaching and share their successes well as the problems they had along the way in making workshop teaching work in their classrooms. Also includes a sample classroom structure for workshop teaching in the middle and upper grades. For information or to order, call Stenhouse at (800) 988-9812 or visit www.stenhouse.com.

Teaching Writing from a Writer's Point of View, ed. Terry Hermsen, who for several years taught poetry for The Experience of Writing, and the late Robert Fox, former Ohio Arts Council Literature Program Director and former Institute Co-Director (Urbana, Illinois: NCTE, 1998). Focuses on four groups of writers and teachers: creative writers in residence in schools, K–12 student writers, Institute participants, and writers who teach in the Institute. Together, the essays offer great teaching ideas as well as proof of the power of writing to transform students and their teachers.
