Effective teachers of writing and reading are themselves writers and readers. That's what the Institute on Writing and Teaching is all about. Every Institute course offers participants opportunities to explore, write, read, and share in a workshop setting. You needn't have experience as a writer: our goal is to help you become a writer if you haven't written previously and to help you become a better writer if you have. The activities you do will form the basis for the practical activities you'll take back to your classroom as well as your understanding of why these activities -- and the activities you'll devise on your own -- help your students learn to read and write. |

To apply for the Institute on Writing and Teaching, follow these steps:
§ You will receive an email confirmation when your application is received. § Even if you’re not sure if you will need a scholarship, it’s best to go ahead and get on the waitlist so that you don’t miss out.
§ “Non-degree seeking” means that you don’t plan to pursue a graduate degree at WSU, but you do plan to take graduate level courses. If you were recently awarded a degree from WSU, you will have to re-apply as “non-degree seeking.” § Allow plenty of time for this part because if your transcripts are needed, it may take a while for the school to get them and update your application packet.
§ Write these down and keep them in a handy place as you will need them frequently: § Once you’ve initially logged into your accounts, you can change the WINGS password and UID pin to ones that you will easily remember. § WINGS is a personalized network folder, which houses your Wright State email account, your course homepages, access to Wings Express, and much more. § Wings Express contains all of your registration information, billing statements, and more. You will need your UID and pin to access Wings Express.
§ This will ensure you a spot in your course and will also generate a University bill. § You can also waive Health Insurance and Student Legal Fees in Wings Express. These are optional services offered to students who may not have benefits otherwise. Note: If you do not waive these fees, they will be added to your bill and once the quarter has started, you will not be able to get a refund.
§ Unless you are taking other University courses over the summer, you will not need to purchase a parking permit. On the first day of class, we will issue a temporary parking pass that will allow you to park in the student lots for the duration of the course. § If your instructor requires you to purchase books or other materials before the start of class, you will receive prior notification. § Any questions, contact writinginstitute@wright.edu |
