Honors Residence HallThe 384-bed Honors Residence Hall opened in the Fall 2002. The entire building is suite-style with two double rooms sharing a bathroom. The building boasts several unique features, including two electronic classrooms, a common kitchen, meeting space, and a service wing. In addition to a convenience store/deli, the service area houses other student service units.
A central core connects the three
distinct wings and allows multi-level
access. A large parking lot is located
behind the North Wing. A courtyard
makes outdoor activities inviting.
The Honors
Residence Hall is an ideal
location for the kind of Living/Learning
Community the Honors Program has long
sought to establish. The wing structure
lends itself to theme units such as an
ecology, international, or
entrepreneurial floor. Student
organizations connected with the Honors
Program will be able to meet and host
social events there. Honors Dialogues,
faculty fireside chats, open mic
nights, and film series will add to the
sense of community.
Honors Faculty-in-ResidenceAs Honors Faculty-in-Residence, Gaetano "Guy" Guzzo lives in the building and maintains an office there. Dr. Guzzo will teach classes, sponsor special programs, lead field trips and be available for counsel on academic issues, graduate school, and the like. The Faculty-in-Residence does not replace the Community or Academic Advisor but will be a supplemental source of information and support. Learn more about Dr. Guzzo on the Honors Program Staff Web site. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors in any major, and with a 3.00 GPA or better, are eligible to live in IHOP. Usually two U.S. students are paired with two international students in each suite. The program aims to facilitate cultural sharing, improve foreign language proficiency, and provide living arrangements for academically-oriented students. IHOP residents have their own Community Advisor and Programming Assistant. Past IHOP participants have been from Russia, Japan, Sweden, France, Kenya, Italy, and the U.S. For more information or to apply, contact Residence Services, 775-4551. | ||
