Who is Eligible?

Application for continuing students are available from the Honors Office. Beginning in February, applications are mailed to new students admitted to the university who qualify for the Honors Program. Incoming students who don't quite meet the qualifications outlined below may request an application and a personal interview to determine their likelihood for success in the Honors Program. The ordinary criteria for admission are:

New Students

(Should meet two of the three)
  • GPA of 3.25 or better in high school
  • Rank in top 10 percent of the graduating class
  • Score at 90th percentile on ACT or SAT

Continuing or Transfer Students

  • GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Faculty recommendation

We are also interested in having students who may not quite meet these qualifications but who bring some special contribution or determination to the program. Such students will be permitted to enroll in selected Honors courses where they can demonstrate that they merit full participation.

Any student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better can register for individual Honors courses on a space-available basis.

Students can be admitted to the program at any time during the year.
