Tenure-track Faculty Positions in Cell Signaling
The College of Science and Mathematics and Boonshoft School of Medicine invite applications for three full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor positions listed below. These positions will begin in Fall 2013 and are the first round of a series of targeted recruitments to enhance an existing inter-department research cluster in Cell Signaling. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to establish an extramurally funded research program, to work collaboratively within existing research strengths in the Cell Signaling cluster, and to teach undergraduate, graduate or medical courses in their area(s) of expertise.
Competitive start-up research packages will be tailored to the specific needs of the successful candidates. Departmental faculty participate in the Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program as well as separate MSc programs in the respective departments. Departmental faculty are located within adjoining research buildings with extensive resources in support of research, which include genomics, metabolomics and proteomics facilities, a breadth of microscopy instrumentation, an animal care facility, and opportunities to collaborate with individuals at numerous regional clinical, industrial, and research institutions, including the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

The Department of Biological Sciences
The Department of Biological Sciences has 17 full-time research faculty with expertise in cellular and molecular biology, comparative physiology, ecological sciences, evolution and population genetics. Biology has its own Masters Program and participates in the Microbiology and Immunology M.S. program. The successful candidate will participate in the Biomedical Sciences and/or Environmental Sciences Ph.D. program, as is appropriate.
Faculty responsibilities in Biological Sciences are divided between research and teaching. New faculty members are expected to establish and maintain an independent and extramurally funded research program.
The standard teaching load is negotiated with the departmental Chair as defined in our by-laws. The typical teaching load is split between didactic courses and supervision of graduate student research. Requirements for promotion and tenure are specified in the Biological Sciences by-laws.
The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department
The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) Department consists of 13 full-time research faculty with cell signaling research expertise in DNA metabolism, genomics, metabolomics and nuclear/cytoplasmic sensors. The department maintains its own Masters program and actively recruits Ph.D. and MD/Ph.D. candidates from the Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program. Additionally, the department maintains a year-round seminar program and an annual endowed lecture series.
While research is a primary focus in the department, BMB faculty also engage in didactic instruction primarily through team-taught courses. The department provides upper-level undergraduate survey courses, graduate level courses to support the Masters and Ph.D. programs and integrated medical education courses. The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research effort related to intracellular signaling mechanisms and provide teaching at a level commensurate with our department mission. The Department of Neuroscience, Cell Biology and Physiology
The Department of Neuroscience, Cell Biology and Physiology is comprised of 21 full-time faculty with a wide range of expertise, including cell signaling in areas of ion channel regulation, stem cell differentiation, and cellular homeostasis.
The department provides upper-level undergraduate courses in the College of Science and Mathematics and graduate level courses to support Masters Programs in Anatomy, and in Physiology and Neuroscience, the Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program, as well as integrated medical education courses in the Boonshoft School of Medicine.
The successful candidate is expected to obtain significant and long term extramural funding to support research related to intracellular signaling mechanisms and provide teaching at a levels commensurate with the department’s mission.
