Final recommendation for licensure requires satisfactory completion of state-mandated examinations.
Community Health Concentration
The new community concentration will prepare candidates in the same methods of health education, but with a focus on working in alternative environments such as public health, occupational wellness, health care, and non-profit agencies. The new concentration aligns to the American Association for Health Education (AAHE) learned society standards, the same standards for the existing health education program. Candidates in the new concentration will be expected to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam, a competency-based test that measures the possession, application and interpretation of knowledge related to the Seven Areas of Responsibilities.

Admittance into Concentration
Students who complete the two-year, CAAHEP accredited program and ACSM/NSCS personal training certification through Sinclair Community College will be direct admitted into the program. An additional two years of course work will be required of the student in order to complete the Community Health concentration.
Students who desire to complete their course work entirely at Wright State will be direct admitted into the Community Health concentration if they receive at least a score of 21 on their ACTs. Students who score below 21 on their ACTs will be admitted once they have completed at least 45 credit hours and have earned a GPA of at least 2.5 at Wright State.
Sports Science Concentration
The Sports Science concentration will incorporate both classroom and supervised practical experiences to prepare undergraduate students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to work as professionals in the health and fitness industry. Candidates who compete this program will be eligible to apply for the ACSM Health and Fitness Instructor certification.
Entry-level health and fitness professionals will be skilled in evaluating health behaviors, risk factors, conducting fitness assessments, developing and implementing safe and effective exercise prescriptions, and motivating individuals to modify negative health habits and maintain positive lifestyle behaviors. Health and fitness professionals can perform these activities in commercial, university, corporate, or community settings where their clients participate in health promotion, fitness, and sports performance activities.
