Diversity Statement

Wright State’s pursuit of excellence as a public university requires that it achieve and maintain an intellectual, cultural, and social environment in which all members of the university community are free to learn. Each member has a potential contribution to make to the whole, and it is our duty to encourage and promote that contribution. Our daily life is enriched by the diversity of individuals, groups, and cultures. Our exposure to new ideas, and to new ways of experiencing and understanding life, helps us learn and appreciate the diversity of the world. It helps us to value and maintain an environment in which personal dignity and respect for the individual are recognized by all.

That environment promotes the acceptance and appreciation of every individual without regard to race, sex (including gender identity/expression), color, religion, ancestry, national origin, age, disability, genetic (DNA) information, veteran status, military status, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation. It is important to the university community that every member of the community may think, learn, and grow without prejudice, without intimidation, and without discrimination.

Wright State University celebrates diversity. The university aspires to serve as a model for our geographic region, demonstrating by example that a community can exist which celebrates diversity, enjoys the richness that diversity brings to our lives, and grows stronger with every new member.

We are all linked to each other in a world created for all of us to share and enjoy. Respect, tolerance, and goodwill are the keys that open its doors to us. We look forward with increasing enthusiasm to expanding our group of friends who share them.
